Augusta – Legislative Republicans released a proposal today that would roll back health and safety guidelines amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Speaker Sara Gideon released the following statement:

“There is no economic health without public health. With remarkable resilience, our people and our businesses have been doing their best to adapt to an impossible situation, and as a state we are meeting the challenge of COVID-19. As we continue to follow the best guidance of public health experts to protect both our people and our businesses, we need to ensure we are doing all we can to support them during this time.

“Unfortunately, most of our Republican colleagues in the Legislature failed to even respond when asked about reconvening a special session to discuss many of the issues at hand. Moving forward, I encourage them to participate in our Legislative work and advocate for policies that would keep our state in its position as one of the most respected responses in the country, not endanger it.”
