AUGUSTA – Governor Janet Mills signed a new Executive Order directing immediate action on the opioid epidemic. The Order outlines the initial actions that will be taken by the Administration to prevent overdose deaths, increase treatment and recovery efforts, and bolster prevention efforts.
Speaker of the House Sara Gideon released the following statement:
“No one living in Maine today can ignore the addiction epidemic overwhelming our communities. It affects our families, our workforce, our safety, our budgets and our hearts. I commend Governor Mills’ for her swift action on this Executive Order and her recognition that we are in crisis. Her outline of immediate action to increase prevention efforts, expand access to effective, affordable treatment and, increase access to programs that support people’s long-term recovery will have a direct impact on thousands of Mainers. Since my first term, I have been working tirelessly to increase access to Narcan – quite literally to save people’s lives. I applaud Governor Mills and her Administration on this comprehensive approach and am heartened to see long-awaited action on this epidemic.”
