AUGUSTA – Governor Janet Mills announced her appointment of Donna Loring, former Penobscot Tribal Council member, as Senior Advisor on Tribal Affairs to the Governor. Loring will be the official liaison between the Governor’s Office and the tribal governments, advise the governor, make recommendations on various tribal-related matters, and serve as a resource on tribal affairs for Executive Branch departments at the direction of the Governor, among other duties.

Speaker Sara Gideon released the following statement:

“I am so pleased that Governor Mills has appointed Donna Loring as her Senior Advisor on Tribal Affairs to the Governor. For too many years, the essential perspective of Native people was missing from policy conversations. This appointment is a significant first step as we repair and forge a new relationship between Maine’s tribes and our state government. I look forward to working with the Administration and Ms. Loring as we work to rebuild confidence and respect.”
