AUGUSTA – Democrats in the Maine Legislature selected Rep. Aaron Frey (D-Bangor) to be their nominee for Attorney General. Frey will stand for election by the full House and Senate Wednesday, December 5. There are no declared Republican candidates.

Speaker Sara Gideon released the following statement:

“I have had the privilege of working alongside Aaron in the Legislature and have always admired his talent, his steady leadership and his ability to navigate challenging and complex issues. As Attorney General, Aaron has pledged to work tirelessly to address Maine’s opiate crisis,, engage in meaningful criminal justice reform, collaborate with the Legislature and advocate on behalf of Maine at the federal level. I look forward to continuing our work together in this new role and offer my sincere congratulations to Aaron.”

“I also want to extend my gratitude to all of the candidates who were a part of this race. Sen. Mike Carpenter, Sen. Mark Dion, District Attorney Maeghan Maloney and Attorney Tim Shannon all elevated the conversation and ran excellent campaigns.”
