Speaker of the House Sara Gideon released the following in response to Governor LePage’s latest weekly radio address:

“It would seem prudent to remind the governor how the legislative process works. In order to conform, we needed a bill in front of us to vote on – which is exactly why both Senate Democrats, Senate Republicans and House Democrats voted to extend the session and allow that legislation to be presented. However, due to the nonsensical actions of the Republican members of the House, that extension was not possible. If he truly feels conformity is this important, I’d politely suggest that the governor contact the House Republicans directly instead of issuing another radio address.

Democrats are ready to work and will support a tax conformity package that will grow and strengthen the middle class, while addressing the significant challenges facing our state. Let’s not lose this opportunity.”
