FREEPORT – LL Bean, Maine’s 5th largest employer and a national outdoor retail leader, announced today that they would no longer sell guns or ammunition to anyone under the age of 21. The company already did not sell assault-style firearms, high-capacity firearms, bump stocks or handguns of any kind.
Speaker of the House Sara Gideon released the following statement:
“LL Bean is a national leader in outdoor retail and sets the highest standards for the entire industry. Their decision to raise the purchase age for rifles is both a common-sense measure to do their part to prevent gun violence and a smart business decision. I applaud their willingness to take this responsible step, and I hope it will inspire others to follow suit.”
