Gideon urges Mainers to do their part to strengthen the Affordable Care Act

AUGUSTA – Speaker Sara Gideon is urging those Mainers lacking health insurance to participate in the open enrollment period for the Marketplace health exchange. The 2018 Open Enrollment Period for health insurance runs from November 1 to December 15, 2017, meaning Mainers will only have six weeks to enroll in or renew a plan. Despite efforts to undermine the Affordable Care Act, ongoing executive orders to weaken coverage and the uncertainty in Congress regarding healthcare, most Mainers still qualify for subsidies to lower their premiums and will be able access quality, affordable plans via the exchange.

Speaker Gideon released the following statement:
“The Affordable Care Act has helped thousands of Mainers purchase the health insurance they need and this year should be no different. In just two weeks, the open enrollment period will begin and Mainers can shop for the insurance that is best for them and their families. This year, with a shorter enrollment period, we must all do our part to ensure our family, friends and neighbors know their coverage options. I encourage you to visit healthcare.gov to learn more and to identify where to get local assistance.”
